Dany Sanz
Originally a painter and sculptor, Dany Sanz created MAKE UP FOR EVER in 1984. Her objective: To develop an all-encompassing line for fashion and show-business professionals, with every product, texture, and color needed to achieve any effect a make up artist’s heart could desire. At the same time, Sanz was experimenting with unique techniques in body painting – the first make up artist in France to be so specialized.
Aside from creating high-performance, wearable make up, Sanz also makes products for every facet of the make up industry. Her experience with theater make up artists showed a need for products to recreate visual effects such as wounds or burns, even prosthetic devices – and her goods have now even found their way into the kits of embalmers and first aid workers. Make up for the ballet, opera, and open-air theater can be subject to harsh conditions – cold, heat, perspiration, humidity – necessitating long-lasting, stable products with enough pigment to be seen from afar. And once adjustments have been made for those conditions, it’s a no-brainer to apply these concepts to fashion shows, where MAKE UP FOR EVER often gives conceptual and backstage direction.
Shortly after developing the line, Sanz opened the first MAKE UP FOR EVER boutique at 5 rue la Boétie in Paris. It was a place where Sanz bounced product ideas and formulations off her make up artist collaborators. The shop served – and continues to serve – as a studio and workshop, where every bit of feedback from colleagues goes into refining and perfecting Sanz’ product.
Once MAKE UP FOR EVER was established and growing, Sanz took the art of make up a step further. Having been principal of the Ecole Chauveau – an exclusive school in Paris, specializing in professional make up application – she was itching to open her own school, to share her know-how and passion with the make up artists of the future. And so in October 2002, the MAKE UP FOR EVER Academy was born.
Backed up by her international experience with all types of make up – cinema, stage, fashion, artistic – and as an instructor, Sanz directs the MAKE UP FOR EVER Academy. She trains every teacher, ensuring that the students’ education is not only one of quality, but also one that embodies the experimental spirit of the company. Intensive courses, offered in both French and English, cover topics from fashion and television to special effects, body painting, and airbrush. To complement the curriculum, specialized outside professionals – photographers, hairdressers, wig-makers, cameramen, chemists – share their expertise during conferences and demonstrations. Association with the Academy also grants students access to hard-to-get internships; and an on-site photo studio, with resident photographer, ensures that students graduate with a working portfolio.
Dany Sanz started out simply filling a niche and fulfilling a passion, never suspecting that her creation would become a major cult brand. But by honoring the history of her art and investing in the future, Sanz doesn’t just make great make up for now. She creates MAKE UP FOR EVER.

Eugenia Weston
Eugenia Weston, founder of Senna Cosmetics and Emmy nominated celebrity makeup artist, has been a pioneer in the cosmetics industry for over three decades.
“From the age of 13, I was fascinated with faces-the emotions, balance, beauty and of course flaws. I was always visualizing how a woman could be more beautiful and better communicate who she truly was through the art of makeup,” states Ms. Weston.
Gifted with an incredible eye for facial harmony combined with a remarkable sense of color and design, she began to create her own totally unique makeup style and mix her own exclusive colors. Instantly her signature style was in demand by friends and ultimately the top fashion photographers in the international couture scene, including Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton, and Greg Gorman. Her work in film and television taught her how lighting, fashion and makeup intersect.
Weston designed the internationally noted ‘Trucco’ Cosmetics product line, consulting with Sebastian founder, Geri Cusenza. Then her unbridled passion for makeup inspired her to create Senna Cosmetics, the first complete artist line created for everyday women to use at home.
Obsessed with brows, Ms. Weston broke new ground by introducing brow tweezing services in her Senna Studios. According to Weston, “A good, classic brow shape can make a woman instantly look younger and feel more confident.” Seeing that the majority of women either ignore or over-tweeze their brows, Weston designed the first-ever brow stencil kit, Form-A-Brow®, as a revolutionary tool to make every woman a brow wizard.
Nominated for an Emmy award for her work with Bette Midler on the TV movie ‘Gypsy’, Weston learned film makeup from Disney Studio makeup stalwarts Robert Schiffer and Bob Mills. She has worked on major entertainment videos for Michael Jackson, Bette Midler and Lisa Marie Presley.
Cited as a ‘muse’ by acclaimed makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, Ms. Weston’s Senna Cosmetics fans include such A-list celebrities as Angelina Jolie, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, Tori Spelling and Denise Richards. Senna is used by top TV and film artists and seen on hit shows including 90210, In Plain Sight, Heroes, Ugly Betty, Scrubs, Private Practice and many more.
Today, Ms. Weston is still creating buzz by designing makeup and services that push the envelope in color, texture, and anti-aging benefits.

Stein was the first makeup artist inducted to the California Cosmetology Association Hall of Fame and is included in the National Cosmetology Association Hall of Renown.
In 1984, when he retired as a professional makeup artist in the entertainment industry to found a small cosmetics and special effects supply in Burbank, Maurice’s Cinema Secrets became an instant hit among makeup artists, studios, and many of “Hollywood’s most expensive faces.” The family-run business outgrew its location within three years and moved to the current building on Riverside Drive.
Maurice also formulated his own line of cosmetics to satisfy the special needs of the entertainment business and advance standards for clinical applications in the medical industry. He regularly volunteers to help cancer patients and burn survivors use makeup to minimize the appearance of scars and discoloration.
Through the American Cancer Society and through the assisted help of the National Cosmetology Association, Stein became one of the first make-up professionals to provide his corrective makeup techniques and educational services to the national Look Good, Feel Better Program. Stein has also worked with cancer patients at City of Hope and burn survivors at The Phoenix Society, five children’s burn units in Shriners hospitals, the Johns Hopkins Burn Rehabilitation Center, and the Grossman Burn Centers.

Sam Fine
What do superstars Patti Labelle, Vanessa L. Williams, Halle Berry, Brandy and supermodels Tyra Banks, Veronica Webb, Iman and Naomi Campbell all have in common? They’ve relied on the expert hand of makeup artist Sam Fine to look their most glamorous. That’s because Fine knows that the key to making up goes beyond painting a pretty face. Long before he became a celebrity makeup artist, the Chicago native paid his dues working behind the makeup counter of department stores, an experience he fondly refers to as “the real school of beauty”. There he came in contact with women from all walks of life that wanted one thing – to look their absolute best. He made it his mission to show them how to accentuate their unique beauty by using colors and shades that would best complement their complexions. But most importantly he helped them eliminate their doubts and apprehension about applying makeup so that they too could achieve dazzling results.
Fine’s talent and determination has taken him far from the makeup counter, making him one of today’s most sought after makeup artists. His work has appeared on the covers and pages of Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Essence, Vibe and Marie Claire and was chosen as the first African – American spokesperson for Revlon and Covergirl Cosmetics. But it was the experiences from his formative years selling makeup that inspired him to write his first book, Fine Beauty: Beauty Basics and Beyond for African – American women, a how-to guide that highlights his many accomplishments.
As follow-up to his best-selling book, Fine Beauty, Fine introduced his first instructional DVD, Fine: The Basics of Beauty in October 2009. As a continuation of his commitment to educate women of color on the “fine” art of makeup, this step-by-step tutorial features three individual makeovers and addresses a myriad of beauty challenges by focusing on tools, technique and product selection. Sharing his wealth of experience and expertise, Fine enables viewers to fully understand all that goes into creating a flawless, natural-looking face.

Sue Devitt
Born in Australia, immersed in clear skies and clean crystal waters I was raised in a naturally healthy environment and quickly developed a deep appreciation and respect for nature and her lively splendor. From the deep sea blues, greens and aquiline waters, to the mystical jewel tones of the Australian ranges; the rich rusty reds, bronze and burnt orange shades of the dusty Australian outback, the dark chocolate brown of the bark on our trees and the glittering golden barrels of hay scattered throughout the countryside, my eye for color became clearly discerning at a very early age. These impressions of raw beauty were powerful and permanent.
It was no surprise that when the time came for me to decide upon a career path it would involve a dedication to nature, vivid color, texture and light. It was part of my DNA and had influenced me deeply and inspired me upon my path.
Throughout the years, I have traveled the world as a makeup artist on location, discovering inexplicable beauty in the far and distant corners of the world. But my life didn’t start out that way, growing up in Australia was simple, clean and wholly uncomplicated.
My childhood was happily sun-drenched and rich with wholesome pleasures; ocean swimming, butterfly catching, hop-scotch and jumping through sprinklers on our front lawn, squealing with delight; numerous family barbeques on a lazy Sunday…a wonderful life, low key and real. Yet I always dreamed of travel…
When we spoke of travel we discussed lands abundant with natural wonders, rainforests, remote islands, and mountainous terrain, lagoons and reefs that stretched forever, villages and tribes with strange inhabitants ancient and untouched for thousands of years. It seemed none of us ever really went to these places; we knew more about America, England and Japan. As a small girl, these remote destinations sounded exotic and impossibly distant. I would tingle with fascination, awe, and a touch of fear as I imagined one day exploring beauty beyond even my own wildest imagination. This could not compare to the magic and mystique found when immersed in what we would only ever hear about in geography or social studies classes.
With my bags and kit packed and at all times ready for adventure, I’ve trekked the earth through the lava terrain of Iceland, the streets of Old Havana, from Uruguay and Tanzania to the mountains of Ouarzazate, scuba dived The Great Barrier Reef, Sardinia, the South Pacific and the East China Sea. All the while refining an idea that came to me during a product development tenure in Japan. I would develop the first “Healthy Beauty” brand of nutrient-rich, color cosmetics featuring a palette for women of all ages and ethnicities inspired by my travels to exotic destinations around the world. These exquisite formulations rich with minerals, vitamins and nutrients would provide glowing beauty and healthy, radiant skin.
While creating and experimenting on location I’ve blended shades from seas that shimmer in the moonlight; created vibrant color found in the magnificent coral reefs; developed smoky purple and lavender tones at the base of Kilimanjaro and found joyous themes inspired by the characters of villagers themselves.
My personal mantra is “Beauty is an adventure”…with endless destinations. The world is my muse.
